Kröller-Müller Museum: Charley Toorop – Liefde voor Van Gogh
From 24 May to 14 September 2025, the exhibition of Charley Toorop (1891-1955) „Love for Van Gogh“ can be seen in the Kröller-Müller Museum. The exhibition highlights her influence of Van Gogh based on themes such as her travels and social involvement.
Charley Toorop
Charley Toorop (1891-1955) was strongly inspired by Vincent van Gogh, whose work led her to become an artist. She travelled to the Borinage and Provence, like Van Gogh, and shared his passion for depicting people and nature. Van Gogh’s influence is particularly visible in her work from 1921-1925. This exhibition is the first to focus on Toorop’s admiration for Van Gogh, with some sixty of her works, some of which have rarely been shown.
Toorop also admired other artists such as Bart van der Leck and Mondrian, but Van Gogh had the greatest influence on her career. His work was for her ‚the breakthrough to a new world.‘
Exhibition
The exhibition highlights her influence on Van Gogh through themes such as her travels and social involvement. In addition to works from the Kröller-Müller collection, pieces from other museums and private collections are on display. The Kröller-Müller Museum has the largest museum collection of Toorop’s work, thanks to purchases by Helene Kröller-Müller and later additions.
