All Times Big Band ‘Vier 80 jaar bevrijding swingend mee’
Saturday April 5th the All Times Bigband will play a so-called ‘Liberation concert’ in the theater de Dialoog in Ermelo. It will be an ode to the 80 years of liberation that we celebrate this year.
Singer Leah Kline, half American and born in Japan, and Dutch crooner Derk de Kloet make the room swing, accompanied by the All Times Bigband conducted by Pieter van den Dolder. Hits like Polka Dots and Moonbeams, Sentimental Journey, but also Ain´t that a Kick in the Head, Hello Dolly and Have you with Miss Jones are performed by the 17-piece band with a great sense of swing, whereby the audience cannot sit still.
Big band music after WWII
After the liberation, it was high time to forget that fearful and sad period after five dark years. With the American and Canadian liberators, the cheerful, swinging dance parties also returned to our country. To the music of the big bands that were making a splash in America again, in which vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Jo Stafford, Rosemary Clooney, June Christy, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Al Hibbler and Nat King Cole flourished, broadcast via the radio network of the American army, the Dutch could finally have fun again and forget the years of misery.
80 years later
On Saturday, April 5 at 8:15 PM, the All Times Bigband will take the audience to the Ermelo theater De Dialoog
to the catchy music from this period just after the Second World War. The band does this together with the American singer Leah Kline and the Dutch crooner Derk de Kloet. Leah, born on an American air base in Japan and living in the Netherlands since 2002, has an expressive singing voice, swings like no other and is above all, besides influences from Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, herself during performances. Derk is a vocalist who seduces an audience to exuberant reactions with his super-swinging versions of Ain’t That a Kick in the Head, Ring a Ding and Hello Dolly. These two great vocalists make it a wonderfully swinging evening together with the All Times Bigband with a festive and atmospheric program to celebrate 80 years of freedom, with the motto Nice and Easy Does It .
The All Times Bigband
The All Times Bigband is often called the most swinging bigband of the Veluwe . The 17-member orchestra specializes in bigband swing music and has been around for over 40 years. The orchestra regularly seeks collaboration with professional jazz musicians, for inspiration and to musically elaborate on a specific theme. For example, it has collaborated with vocalists Anna Serierse, Philip Paar and Deborah Carter and instrumentalists René ten Cate, Martijn Luttmer and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen. But the orchestra is also a welcome guest at festivals and parties. ‘Swing’ is the basis, but you can do many things with it. Music of All Times!
