Biography Cor de Groot:
Cor de Groot got a guitar on his tenth birthday. He never had lessons, but learned some chords here and there and listened to records, tapes and cassettes a lot. Later he started playing the harmonica because he wanted to sing and play the songs of Donovan and Bob Dylan. His first introduction to the blues came when he discovered music by Sonny Boy Williamson II (Rice Miller).
Since then, his interest has alternated between folk and blues. Folk not only includes Bob Dylan, but also artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Lowell George and Tom Waits. His interest in blues remained limited to acoustic ‘one-man-one-guitar’ blues, in various variations. He was inspired by old blues artists such as Mississippi Fred McDowell, Arthur Blake, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Leadbelly, Pink Anderson and Frank Stokes. He also admires artists who combine the old styles with great respect and make new music from them, such as singer-guitarists Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raitt, and harmonica players Joe Filisko, Kim Wilson and Rick Estrin.
Cor de Groot’s repertoire can be briefly summarized as: acoustic old school blues, ballads & bits of rock.
