Klarendal is known for its nineteenth century social housing, the mill and nowadays also the Fashion Quarter. This first urban expansion came about due to the large influx of workers in the nineteenth century. That was also when the first initiatives for better housing emerged.
In order to drive out the slum landlords, Klarendal was redeveloped several times. The Fashion Quarter was recently developed here and now the population is very diverse. The walk gives you an idea of these developments with courtyards, schools, military buildings, a public bathhouse and a protected cityscape. It is also exciting: high and low, sometimes a staircase up or down.
