You cycle via Schaarsbergen to the Ginkelse heath, where you cycle past various cultural-historical places in the Veluwe. Because culture and nature go hand in hand on the Veluwe. You can also start at the Veluwe Nature Center, ‘De Beken’ visitor center or at one of the junctions mentioned. The route can be cycled in two directions.

Starting point with information about Veluws Verleden:
Sonsbeek Visitor Center, Zijpendaalseweg 24a, Arnhem. From the entrance of the Sonsbeek Visitor Center you cycle past the Dutch Water Museum to junction 42.

The Sint Jansbeek, which is the origin of the city of Arnhem, begins in Park Zypendaal. In 1741, the Arnhem city secretary Baron Brantsen van de Zyp had a country house built here, which subsequently grew into a country estate with coach house and orangery; the current Zypendaal House.

Just after the viaduct is the Arnhem war museum ’40–’45. It offers a collection of weapons, uniforms and objects that give an idea of what happened in Arnhem and the surrounding area during the war years.

You are close to the Veluwe Nature Center, which is located in a beautiful and versatile area: on the edge of the agricultural enclave De Ginkel. It is also possible to start the route here.

Just after junction 37 you pass Kasteel Doorwerth. Since 1280, the castle has developed into an imposing building complex with a main castle and an outer bailey. Three museums are located in the main castle, the Castle Museum, the Veluwezoom Museum and the Dutch Hunting Museum. After this you cycle along the steep southern edge of the Veluwe.

You cycle through Oosterbeek, past the old church. This is one of the oldest churches in our country. You will find some memories of the Battle of Arnhem there.
