Water recreation
The Veluwe is a water lovers paradise
When you think of this part of The Netherlands, you might not immediately think of sun, sea and sand, but did you know that this region is home to hundreds of lakes, streams, rivers and beaches? These are the ultimate places for all kinds of water sports and water-based recreational activities. Take to the water yourself to savour the freedom of the expansive lakes and meandering rivers, or relax and unwind at the water’s edge. There are plenty of sports and leisure facilities, and the shallow water in a number of lakes makes them ideal for beginners.
Veluwerandmeren Lakes
The Veluwerandmeren lakes are popular for watersports enthusiasts. There are lots of facilities for activities including kitesurfing, wakeboarding and canoeing. Strand Horst beach is a big favourite thanks to its central location, the shallow water of the Wolderwijd lake and its favourable position for most wind conditions. This is one of the safest places for novices to learn all sorts of sports such as stand-up paddling (SUP) and sailing a catamaran. It is difficult to describe how it feels to toy with the elements of water and wind, to move forward driven purely by the force of nature and the power of your own body. You’ll just have to experience it for yourself!
