The Veluwezoom is known for ‘Gelders Arcadia’, the landscape of vast estates, country estates and castles. For example, you will find Middachten Estate, Rosendael Park and Castle, Huis Zypendaal, Doorwerth Castle and Villa Sanoer.
The Veluwezoom is known for ‘Gelders Arcadia’, the landscape of vast estates, castles and country estates. This route takes you through the eastern part of this area and visits various castles and estates. You start your route at the beautiful Rosendael castle and park. The Dukes of Gelre have resided here for over 200 years since the Middle Ages. The large round tower of the castle can also still be seen. This tower with four-meter-thick walls, called donjon, is worth seeing and is the largest preserved in the Netherlands! Along the way you cycle along the IJssel and its floodplains and through the Veluwezoom National Park. You will also pass Buitenplaats Beekhuizen, located on the Beekhuizen Estate, where you can enjoy a snack and a drink.
