There is no region in the Netherlands that has been as rich in watermills as the Veluwe. Discover the story of the paper industry with this route on the Veluwe.

During the Golden Age, paper production in the Netherlands reached full speed. Thanks to the flowing and especially clear water, the whitest paper came from the Veluwe. Watermills, powered by this water, are the origin of paper production and processing. There is no region in the Netherlands that has been as rich in watermills as the Veluwe. Today, much of the industrial heritage can still be seen and – more importantly – experienced. For example, take a look at the Korenmolen Eerbeek where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner, or at the paper factory De Middelste Molen where paper has been produced since 1622!

Tip : Combine this route with the Tour de Papier cycling route – both routes are not only connected via the cycling junctions, the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij will also take you to locations where the routes can start this summer! More information at visitveluwe.nl/paper .

Do you want to shorten or lengthen the route along the way? At each junction you will find a map on the information panel and you can easily adjust your route yourself. This route can also be found in the Cycling Route Booklet 2023, visit one of the tourist information locations to receive a copy of the route booklet!
