A cycling route with a royal touch! With the ‘Route de Lodewijk Napoléon’ you literally follow in the footsteps of the First King of Holland: Lodewijk Napoléon. Lodewijk De Goede, as his nickname was, took the initiative in 1809 to pave the dirt road Amersfoort, via Terschuur, Voorthuizen, Garderen to Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn. Something we still benefit from today. The route starts at Gasterij Zondag in Garderen. Royals made a stopover by carriage at various locations, as is still remembered by a bust of Louis Napoléon at the hotel-restaurant De Echoput. Tip: From junction 21, follow the old main road from Voorthuizen towards Gasterij Zondag. The former Roskam is located on this road, which was already a household name at that time! Would you rather continue the route via the junction network? Then, after junction 21, follow the junctions: 31, 94, 57, 58 to return to the starting location.

Do you want to shorten or lengthen the route along the way? At each junction you will find a map on the information panel and you can easily adjust your route yourself. This route can also be found in the Cycling Route Booklet 2023, visit one of the tourist information locations to receive a copy of the route booklet!
