This experience cycling route invites you to get on your bike and actively discover Apeldoorn’s royal past through a cycling audio tour.
With this bicycle audio tour, find out everything about the royal trail that the House of Orange literally and figuratively left behind in Apeldoorn.
The 12 kilometer route partly leads along the former Koningslijn railway line. William III connected this line to Apeldoorn in 1876. Until 1950, royals such as Regent Emma and Queen Wilhelmina rode on this Royal Line. The Royal Ride starts from the artwork De Kus on Stationsplein. The royal waiting room used to be located in Royaal station. This was demolished in 1977 and today there is a catering facility in the building where you can enjoy coffee, tea, lunch and a simple meal.
Combine route with Buitenmuseum
The 12-kilometre experience route leads to Het Loo Palace via surprising stops, special views and royal stops. Along the way you will listen to stories about the history of the Oranjes in Apeldoorn and you will get an idea of what happened on the route in the past. The route ends in the city center via the royal Loolaan, where the horse tram used to run.

The Royal Ride cycle route can be downloaded via the free Apeldoorn Stories app. After scanning the starting point on Stationsplein, you will be navigated along the route to the stops, where you will hear a story and be asked a question at each stop. The bike tour is suitable for young and old.
Tip: take a bicycle phone holder with you so that the route can be safely cycled with a mobile phone. No bicycle? There is a bicycle shed under the station where you can rent public transport bicycles. In addition, this audio tour can also easily be completed on foot.
