On the North Veluwe, the area around the old Zuiderzee is a beautiful area for bird watching. A real hotspot is Polder Oosterwolde on the Drontermeer, one of the most important meadow bird areas of Gelderland.
Cycle through beautiful landscapes and spot special bird species, the area on the North Veluwe is perfect for this! Between junctions 18 and 80 you will find the Hierdensebeek lookout tower and while cycling along the old Zuiderzee you will pass the Polsmaten bird watching screen. Get off halfway along the route at the Havenkade in Elburg where you will find beautiful sand sculptures. A little further on you will find a unique meadow bird area at junction 81: the Polder Oosterwolde on the Drontermeer. This is the habitat of godwits, lapwings, redshanks, bitterns and shovelers! Moreover, along the way you will pass the bird watching huts Doornspijk and Rietland Elburg, where you also have the chance to see kingfishers, ospreys, bearded men and water rails.
