Income from fishing was accompanied by losses due to flooding. The centuries-long battle that the inhabitants of the Veluwe waged against the Zuiderzee is still clearly visible today. In one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands, Arkemheen, in particular, a special landscape emerged over the years. Slits of the tidal currents of the Zuiderzee created winding ditches. This original parcel structure is still visible today. In addition, dike breaches, the last of which occurred in 1916, created whirlpools and reed marshes.

The route starts at the Postillion Hotel Amersfoort Veluwemeer at Strandboulevard 3 in Putten and near Nijkerk.
