Discover the vast heathland of the Eder and Ginkelse Heide during the Day Tour Ginkelse Heide. This route is based on a day trip from the former Veluwe Trail and is suitable for both riders and drivers.

Trotting among the sheep
The Eder and Ginkelse Heide are located in the De Ginkel nature reserve, a vast area that is popular with riders. The wide paths are ideal for galloping along. In August the heather is in bloom, which provides spectacular views.

There are two sheepfolds on De Ginkel: one on the North Ginkel and one on the South Ginkel. Who knows, you might come across a shepherd with his flock of sheep.

Military history
De Ginkels has a rich war history. In September 1944, the Airborne Airborne Landings took place on the Zuid Ginkel, which marked the start of the Battle of Arnhem. There is a landmark on the memorial field next to the sheepfold to commemorate this event.

To this day, there is a strong connection between defense and the Eder and Ginkelse Heide. Military exercises involving manpower and vehicles take place regularly. Are you practicing during your trip across the heath? Then give space to soldiers and vehicles and choose an alternative path if necessary.

Take a horse-friendly break
Need a break along the way? The Ginkelse Heide Day Tour passes Boerderij Mossel and Juffrouw Tok . Both you and your horse can go to these locations for a well-deserved break.

Please note: in very dry or wet weather, the paths in the open field and the heath (especially for attachments) can be difficult.
