From the high, dry sandy soil at the Kootwijkerveen you have a good view of the water and the little grebe (water bird that is related to the great crested grebe). Above your head you can hear the black woodpecker and the characteristic sound of the raven. In winter you can see the gray shrike spying on its prey. An encounter with this bird, nature shrouded in white frost. It definitely makes a winter walk worthwhile.
