In 1942, a radio sounding station was installed by the Germans on the site of the current Terlet Gliding Center. The five wooden towers, the so-called Y-pillars, that stood on the site ensured that the Luftwaffe night fighters could be guided to intercept bombers of the Royal Air Force. The Galgenberg, near the radio station, was a strategic location. From this hill the Germans could see everything without the Allies being aware of it. This radio sounding station near Terlet played an important role in the Battle of Arnhem.

For example, concrete remains of radio stations and the remains of a crashed British bomber can still be found. Of the various buildings that surrounded the towers, only the former administration building can still be found on the site.
