This varied walking route takes you along and through all the landscapes that the nature reserve around the Hulshorsterzand and the Leuvenum forests has to offer. Stroll over the heath and through the forest, along the drifting dunes and the banks of the longest stream in the Veluwe.

Start your walk at Hierderweg Parking Lot. From the parking lot, follow the Hierderweg into the forest.

The walk starts under quite old beech trees. You walk in one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands; The Leuvenum forests. This area has been managed by Natuurmonumenten for over 100 years. The forest is home to many animal species, such as wild boar, red deer and roe deer and badgers, foxes and pine martens. Looking across the open drifting sand you might imagine how extreme this habitat is. The temperature difference between day and night can be as much as forty degrees. The few pioneers here are usually remarkable animals and plants.

The route also runs a long way along the Leuvenumse Beek, the habitat of the Kingfisher, among others.
