The Kootwijkerzand is a unique piece of nature on the Veluwe. It is the largest drifting sand area in Western Europe. The wind has mainly shaped the nature reserve as it is today. The fly pines, among other things, were formed by the wind that blew open the roots. Even though the nature reserve mainly consists of drifting sand, many different special plants and species of game can be found. So there is certainly flora and fauna on a sandy plain. Animal species such as badgers, deer, red deer and wild boar can be spotted here. You will also find maidenhair, heather sprugge and sand sedge. Fun fact: heath sprugge and sand sedge only grow in the Kootwijkerzand in the world.

From the lookout tower on Kootwijkerzand you have a good view of the entire nature reserve. You can climb the tower for free between sunrise and sunset.
