Gemaal Terwolde

Bandijk 25, Terwolde

The history of this pumping station begins in 1913 with the assignment to engineering firm Van Hasselt en de Koning to build a steam pumping station on the Bandijk in Terwolde.

Over time, the capacity of the steam pumping station turned out to be no longer large enough. The Technical Bureau of the Union of Water Board Associations was commissioned to design a new pumping station. The new electric pumping station, built in 1951, was built south of the steam pumping station. While the no longer functional steam pumping stations were often demolished, the decision was made to build a new pumping station on the Bandijk, creating the current unique pumping station ensemble. The former steam pumping station was converted into a service residence for ‘the engineer’ who operated the pumping station.
