Goudsberg: Celtic Fields en IJzertijdboerderij

Vijfsprongweg , Lunteren

Take a look at the Iron Age and visit the Celtic Fields and Iron Age farm on the Goudsberg.

Anyone who visits the Celtic Fields on the Goudsberg will feel like going back in time. At this location you will find a reconstruction of a farm with associated Celtic Fields from the Iron Age. It is not without reason that you will find this reconstruction here: in 1996 it was discovered that there were once five farms on this site and one of the largest Celtic fields in the Netherlands.

Celtic Fields

In the Iron Age, Celtic Fields, also called comb fields, were widely used in agriculture. This is a system of fields of about 35 by 35 meters, enclosed by a low wall. Varying products grew in the fields. For example, one year the farmer grew barley, the next year he grew beans. This way the soil was depleted less quickly. The cultivation of varying crops is still practiced in modern agriculture.

Farm

The reconstructed farm is also called a Spieker. The shape and dimensions of the farm are an assumption, because no one knows exactly what these spiekers looked like.

Visits

In addition to the farm and the comb fields, during your visit to the Celtic Fields you can also enjoy the surroundings on the viewing platform and take a lunch break at the picnic bench. Are you coming by car? Then you can park right next to the Celtics Fields.
