The Putter Stoomgemaal is the last restored paddle wheel pumping station in the Netherlands. Every Wednesday the volunteers of the Putter steam pumping station work on the maintenance of the machine and visitors are very welcome to come and have a look.

The pumping station is in operation on special operating days and the stokers and engineer are happy to explain the history and operation of the special steam engine. The old boiler is located in the shed and there is a photo exhibition about the steam pumping station. For example, the Putter Stoomgemaal was built in 1886 on the foundations of the demolished windmill and the pumping station operated until 1971. Five years later, the pumping station was added to the list of protected national monuments and the restoration was completed in 2006, resulting in a pumping station that has been virtually restored to its original and working condition.
