Two streams flow at Laag-Soeren, the Soerense Beek and the Bovenbeek. The sprinklers of both streams are hidden in the forest west of Laag-Soeren. If you take the ‘Omtje Laag-Soeren’ walk, you follow the course of the streams. You pass two old mill sites. One of these is the former Soerense Korenmolen on the Bovenbeek, the building of which was restored in 1988. The waterfall, the water basin and the weir, in which a slide could be placed, refer to the former function of this building as a water mill. The water basin used to be a real reservoir, a weerd, which was located a little higher up. There is nothing left of the Paper Mill on the Bovenbeek ‘Welbedacht’ on the Soerense Beek, except the place.

In Laag-Soeren the sprinkling water was used in a special way. The health resort ‘Bethesda’ was founded in 1849, unique to the Netherlands. The clean sprinkling water formed the basis for various treatments, such as mud baths and cold water baths. The cold water baths were possible all year round due to an important property of the sprinkling water: the constant temperature of approximately 10°C. The Priesnitz monument was erected in memory of four water physicians and several avenues in Laag-Soeren were named after the professors. Today, the Laag-Soeren Estate is an apartment complex with a special garden layout.

The Laag-Soeren ice skating association also makes grateful use of the stream water. In winter when it freezes well, you can enjoy skating here on the flooded meadows!

The springs of Laag-Soeren are best discovered on foot. The best place to park (car or bicycle) is at restaurant De Harmonie in the middle of the village or at the Plaghak car park in the forest.
