Naturally versatile

The Arkemheen polder is part of the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape (www.arkemheen-eemland.nl) and a Natura 2000 area. The wigeon, the little white swan and the meadow birds are extra protected here. It is a unique nature reserve with breeding grounds for many species of water and meadow birds and a foraging and wintering area for migratory birds.

The visitor center is located in the old coal shed of the steam pumping station and underwent a metamorphosis in 2016. The permanent exhibition is organized by the Vallei en Veluwe Water Board, the Association of Natural Monuments, LTO North Veluwerand department, the BAO Foundation and the Arkemheen Stoomgemaal Foundation. The surprising elements give visitors, young and old, a good idea of the unique cultural-historical natural values of the Arkemheen polder. There are treasure hunts, a breathtaking photo wall, cuddly polder animals, the dike warden tells her story; there is plenty to do.

In the visitor center you will also find all kinds of information about activities in the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape and on the Veluwe. Coffee, tea and soft drinks with something tasty are also available here.

Changing exhibitions can be seen in the attic of the visitor center and from here you have a beautiful view over the polder. There is a bird watching window with bird watchers to observe the polder. Due to the rewetting, so many birds have never been seen as in the past two years.
