De Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij

Travel back in time! The Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) runs historic steam locomotives on the more than hundred-year-old railway line between Apeldoorn and Dieren.

Early in the morning, the stoker and driver prepare one of Europe’s largest steam locomotives. When everything is lubricated and sufficient pressure has been built up, the steam whistle sounds before departure. Board a nostalgic steam train and discover the beautiful Veluwe landscape. With the white plumes of steam and the sound of the steam whistle you travel back in time and experience the technology of the past.

Museum station Beekbergen

At Beekbergen station there is the Museum Station with the steam depot and the locomotive shed. The VSM has now built up an impressive equipment park including a unique collection of old steam and diesel locomotives and historic carriages. You will also find a beautiful old station building with an authentic station office, a large turntable, a coal crane, water columns, arm signals, manually operated level crossings, and much more that used to be seen on and next to the track. There is a classic station restaurant and a cozy terrace with a view of the trains. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a drink or a snack. For a moment you get the feeling of being back in the 1950s, when traveling by steam train was a unique experience.

King line

The VSM has its own railway line between Apeldoorn and Dieren, with intermediate stations in Beekbergen, Loenen and Eerbeek. The route is part of the so-called Koningslijn, which originally connected Dieren with Zwolle via Apeldoorn.

What is unique about the VSM is that it is run exclusively by enthusiastic and skilled volunteers. From operator to maintenance technician. Everyone works with great care, patience and knowledge on the maintenance and maintenance of the locomotives, carriages, freight wagons and the track. They now have the largest collection of running steam locomotives in Europe. In the first full weekend of September there is a grand steam train festival in which they use all their high-performance steam locomotives.

The VSM stops at the following stations; Apeldoorn Station, Beekbergen Museum Station, Immenbergweg Stop, Loenen Station, Eerbeek Station and Dieren Station.
