The Jewish monument in Barneveld commemorates more than 650 prominent Jewish Dutch people, also known as the Barneveld group. The Germans exempted them from the Labor Seinsatz and deportation. From December 1942 they were housed in castle ‘De Schaffelaar’ and villa ‘De Biezen’ in Barneveld. This happened in the context of the ‘Frederiks Plan’. On September 29, 1943, this group was deported to Westerbork camp, from where they were taken to Theresienstadt. A total of 632 Jews from this group survived the war.
