In addition to the world-famous Kröller-Müller Museum, De Hoge Veluwe National Park also houses Jachthuis Sint Hubertus. This is the former country residence of the Kröller-Müller couple. It is one of the most important buildings in the Netherlands.

The Hunting Lodge was designed by the famous architect Berlage. It is inspired by English country house. However, the characteristic tower is a feature of many of Berlage’s buildings and was also part of the Kröller-Müller couple’s wish to have a wide view of the surroundings.

While Berlage usually guaranteed rational, businesslike designs, with the Jachthuis he showed an excess of attention to the craft of design. It is one of the reasons why the Hunting Lodge is highly respected at home and abroad. In addition, Berlage also designed the complete interior as well as the immediate surroundings, a park with a large pond with a bridge over it. This means that the Hunting Lodge is a so-called Gesamtkunstwerk, as far as known the only one by Berlage.

The construction of Hunting Lodge Sint Hubertus was completed in 1920. From then on, the couple mainly used the Hunting Lodge as a country residence. Only in the last phase of their lives did they live there permanently.
