The Gelders Geological Museum in Velp grew from a private collection. The permanent collection consists of minerals, fossils and rocks. The minerals from all over the world show astonishing differences in shape and color. The fossils show the petrified remains of plants and animals: from 400 million year old digging marks to mammoth bones found in Gelderland. The history and origin of the rocks and boulders are explained. The geology of Gelderland receives extra attention, with many interesting finds from the area.

There is a themed exhibition twice a year. During the school holidays there is often a children’s activity on the theme or a workshop. Children can always do a mineral scavenger hunt. If they want to sharpen a stone themselves (for a fee), it is wise to call in advance. Birthday parties are also possible.

Schools and other groups are very welcome. There are optional programs available, including about Gelderland, volcanism and fossils. A program can also be put together in consultation.
