In the Speulderbos, also called “the forest of the dancing trees”, “Het Solse Gat” is located in a large hole between the hills. Legend has it that there once was a mighty monastery there. The monks did not behave properly. Centuries ago on a stormy Christmas night, the villagers heard a loud clap of thunder and the monastery had completely disappeared. A chillingly deep pit was created at that spot. Around midnight the sound of bells comes from the deep pit. A blue glow rises and then the spirits of the monks appear.

During the day, when the sun shines through the trees and it seems as if the trees are dancing, there is nothing wrong.

The Speulderbos and Het Solse Gat can be found at cycling junction 97 56 between Putten, Garderen and Drie. Tip. The Speulderbos and Heide Route 36.5 km goes along the Solse Gat. Available (€ 1.95) at VVV Putten.
