The Speulderbos is one of the most beautiful and oldest forests in the Netherlands. Crooked oak trees grown in wonderful curves determine the atmosphere. It is popularly called the forest of dancing trees. You will also find many burial mounds here. The forest is a paradise for birds, deer and wild boars. The Solse Gat is located in the middle of the forest. This is a deep, chilling pit in the woods. The legend is about a sunken monastery. The monks would still be wandering around the Solse Gat around midnight until sunrise. During the day when the sun shines through the trees, it looks like the trees are dancing. A fairytale scene.
The area is very nice to discover by bike. There are beautiful cycle paths that go through the forest. You can plot a route yourself based on the cycling junction network or purchase a cycling route from VVV Putten.
Would you like to take a nice walk through the forest? There are several marked hiking trails that go through the Speulder and Sprielderbos. These can be found on the hiking maps of the route agency and can be purchased at VVV Putten.
If you go for a walk, you can easily park your car in the parking lot of Landgoed Schovenhorst. This can be found on the Garderenseweg.
