Over Het Solse Gat
Kootwijkerzand is a unique piece of nature on the Veluwe. It is the largest drifting sand area in Western Europe. The wind has primarily shaped the nature reserve as it is today. Among other things, the Scots pines have been shaped by the wind, which has blown the roots open.
Although the nature reserve mainly consists of shifting sands, many different special plants and types of wildlife can be found there. So, even on a sandy plain, there is definitely flora and fauna to be found.
Flora and fauna
Animal species such as badgers, roe deer, red deer and wild boar can be spotted here. A number of plants also grow only at Kootwijkerzand (and according to some, even worldwide).
From the observation tower located at Kootwijkerzand, you have a good view over the entire nature reserve. You can climb the tower for free between sunrise and sunset.
