A Veluwe starting point is a free parking lot that serves as a starting point for exploring the surrounding nature. Information panels highlight the extensive tourist opportunities available from the parking lot.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woods or follow a marked route? From Poolseweg, you’re right in the woods and can easily connect to the cycling junction network. From this starting point, you can choose a cultural-historical route past the sheepfolds of Elspeet and Ermelo, across the Ermelo and Elspeet heaths, and through the tranquil Leuvenumse Bos. Along the way, you’ll pass charming villages and hamlets, and Harderwijk—a Hanseatic city with a rich history—is within cycling distance. On the heath, you can see the outlines of a Roman penal camp. A striking feature is the Leuvenumse Beek stream: it meanders from Uddel to Lake Veluwe, has free rein here, and at high water levels, floods parts of the forest—a habitat for the kingfisher.
🚶 A walking route starts from the Polenweg trailhead on the Veluwe. This is the Leuvenumse Bossen family trail . This route is 2 km long and easily accessible for wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers.
🚴 From the starting point on Poolseweg, a large number of cycle paths will take you in all directions. From this point, you can create your own cycling route. Or cycle towards Staverden to pick up the Culinary Castles Route from there.
🐎 You can also enjoy nature here with your horse! A riding route passes the starting point. The Cyriasische Veld loop starts at 15 km and can be extended to 25 km. Enjoy the expansive heathland and the Leuvenumse Beek stream along the way.
🅿️ The Poolseweg is an unpaved, but easily accessible road that takes you straight into the middle of the Leuvenum forest.
