Over Belevingskijker Angerenstein
Until the beginning of the last century, the Klarenbeek and Angerenstein estates belonged to a continuous chain of country houses and estates in Arnhem and the surrounding area.
Population growth and the associated urban development led to the breaking of the green chain at the location of this experiential object.
The Klarenbeek and Angerenstein estates have a history dating back to the Middle Ages, when they were part of the possessions of the Abbey of Prüm. From 1342, a Carthusian monastery – Monnikhuizen – stood on Klarenbeek, which was founded by the Count of Gelderland, Reinoud II.
It was not until 1642 that Klarenbeek became an estate when Huis Klarenbeek was built. Over time, the grounds were transformed in the English landscape style, creating magnificent panoramas such as can still be experienced today in Klarenbeek Park.
The estate came partly into the hands of the municipality in 1886, marking the beginning of an ever-increasing development of the grounds. Klarenbeek House itself was lost to the ravages of war in 1945.
